Welcome to the listening zone

This is your space – what do you need?

My name is Beth, and I live in Tillicoultry looking across the
beautiful Ochil Hills.

How can I help?

Counselling

I have experience working with survivors of historic sexual abuse and trauma. Important topics that come up a lot in counselling are anxiety, chronic pain, anger, bereavement, suicidal thoughts and faith issues.

I also offer pain management, Christian counselling and mentorship for other counsellors.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety feels exhausting.

You may have a lot of fear and dread about certain situations. You may also experience restlessness, lack of concentration or physical symptoms such as your heart rate going up.

Pain Management

Normally, when you have pain, you just want it to go away!

However, if you have pain there is always a reason for this. You may have migraines or digestive problems, but you don’t understand why and are just putting up with not feeling well. If you have experienced something traumatic then your body often responds to that with pain.

If you are experiencing  physical pain, we can focus on that in our sessions together.

Where do you have pain, and how is it affecting you? By being a detective and noticing your pain in a gentle and calm way, this can bring much needed breakthrough so you can start to feel better.

Christian Counselling

Often counselling can bring up spiritual and faith issues.

For example, do you ever think about the meaning and purpose of your life?

Do you wonder if God exists?

Have you stopped attending church because you got hurt?

I also offer Christian counselling, so this can be an opportunity for you to discuss these important issues

What happens in Counselling?

Good Question!

When we meet for the first time, I will ask why you decided to come to counselling.

It is important to recognise that counselling is your space – what do you need?

You may not know where to start, but it is important that you will be listened to and can talk things through.

About Beth

MACC Professional Therapist

My name is Beth, and I live in Tillicoultry looking across the
beautiful Ochil Hills.

If you are looking for counselling, but it can be hard to know where to start, especially if you are feeling anxious.

Coming to counselling is like being a detective and a having a calm space to find answers.

I work with adults (18 years plus) and offer counselling online.

Pain Management

Mrs K needed pain management due to a historic injury to her shoulder.

Mrs K said that she often could not lift her arm because it was painful.

At a pain management session, she recognised that her pain had originated when she had tensed up at the time of her accident.

Gently, by focusing and recognising the pain, she was able to have more movement in her arm and less pain in her shoulder.

Mrs K said that she was “so thankful that she could lift her arm more easily because she had had pain for a number of years.”

Christian Counselling

Mr A came to Christian counselling because he was struggling with a recurring cycle of anger and exhaustion. He had stopped attending church because he had become cynical about issues of faith.

Mr A shared that he found it impossible to find time to pray and read the bible. Mr A appreciated having a calm space to talk about everything that was on his mind.

After several sessions, he started listening to daily bible readings when he went out for a walk.

Mr A said, “counselling helped me process my anger and be reminded about the importance of faith.”

Grief Counselling

Mr C came to counselling because he had experienced the death of several close family members. He found that his grief was overwhelming, and he could not sleep peacefully at night.

Mr C struggled with strong suicidal thoughts and anger because he thought that no-one cared about him.

This impacted his daily life so much that he could not get motivated to go shopping or do any cooking. Slowly, things began to change, Mr C felt confident to go for coffee with friends and then started some adult education classes. Just before counselling ended, Mr C had the opportunity to go on holiday.

When Mr C’s counselling finished, he said that “coming to counselling saved my life; I was treated with compassion, and I was heard and seen for the first time in years”

Mentorship

Are you feeling exhausted? Is the work of counselling impacting you personally? Then it’s time for change!

When I was training to become a counsellor, I completed a research project to find out if qualified counsellors felt supported in their work. All the counsellors that were interviewed said that they lacked mentorship and personal support in their role as counsellors. This massively impacted their personal lives, and some counsellors had experienced burnout.

Counselling is a rewarding but tough role. It is important to recognise as counsellors we are human, and we need to look after ourselves so we can continue work with people.

I offer 30-minute appointments where you can come, have a calm space to think through what is important for you and be encouraged.

Case Study

Ms E came to counsellor mentorship because she was struggling balancing her increasing workload and family life.

Ms E wanted a calm space to think about what was important in her life. Mentorship was just what Ms E needed to prioritize her time more actively and think about some changes in her
professional life.

Ms E said that she “appreciated having someone to encourage her in her work as a counsellor but also be seen as valuable”.
