Health and Well Being
For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in health and wellbeing.
After I left school, I started work as a laboratory assistant. As time went on, I was often the first point of contact to help others.
Even now, I sometimes end up chatting and listening to people when standing in a queue waiting for a takeaway coffee!
I became a counsellor so that I can listen and support others.
After my Dad passed away, some people said to me “you just have to get on with it.”
I noticed that this stoic approach stemmed from people not always knowing what to say. Fast forward to 2016, and I had the opportunity to participate in some training for bereavement listening.
This training was like a lightbulb moment as it detailed the process of grief. Since then I have been privileged to train and work as a counsellor, meeting so many people and listening to their experience.
If you were to ask me what is the most essential part of my life, my answer would be my Christian faith.
I have found that counselling and faith often overlap because everyone needs hope. I believe that as individuals we are unique and of value. This is how I approach my work as a counsellor.
